Proti akademickému antisemitismu

Vážené kolegyně a kolegové,
Obracíme se i na veřejnost,
my občané, studenti i vědci z různých oborů cítíme znepokojení nad rozšiřující se činností skupiny antisemitských aktivistů na českých vysokých školách a institucích Akademie věd ČR. Nyní se ozývají pod jménem „Iniciativa za kritickou akademii“, ale překrývají se s jinými skupinami, které užívají jiná jména (Ne naším jménem, AAA, Přátelé Palestiny ad.), a na veřejnost se nyní obracejí jakožto „akademici“. Jejich činnost je zaměřena primárně na legitimizaci vyjadřování nenávisti proti Státu Izrael, sekundárně však svou taktikou zpochybňují i hodnotu pravdy, lidských práv a základních principů demokracie.
Svá prohlášení úmyslně časují na data, která jsou významnými symboly těchto hodnot a pro svá shromáždění volí veřejná místa, která mají centrální význam pro kolektivní paměť, nebo jsou to sídla významných vědeckých institucí. Postupně posunují hranice toho, co oni smí, ale i toho, co ostatní nesmí.
Výzvy, které tyto skupiny adresují české vládě, akademické komunitě nebo celé české veřejnosti, mají za cíl ukončit naši spolupráci s izraelskými vysokými školami a vědeckými organizacemi. Záměr Iniciativy souzní s požadavky propalestinského Mezinárodního hnutí solidarity a sdružení Přátelé Palestiny, která se snaží narušit vztahy České republiky a Izraele. Pravidelně však argumentují lidskými právy, jako tomu bylo 25. 11. v petici prezidentovi ve věci rozsudku ICC v Haagu, nebo na shromáždění, jež uskutečnili ku příležitosti Mezinárodního dne lidských práv u budovy Filozofické fakulty v Praze.
Nový antisemitismus (čti antisionismus) již není ohraničeným fenoménem západních vysokých škol. Díky aktivitám této Iniciativy se etabluje i v českém vzdělávacím systému. Od zveřejnění výzvy v době říjnového výročí brutálního masakru izraelských civilistů se množství signatářů rozrůstá, včetně počtu vědeckých institucí. Mezi petenty jsou i autoři učebnic dějepisu a učitelé budoucích učitelů. Máme velmi realistickou obavu, že touto činností se antisemitské předsudky předají i mladším generacím.
Snažně tedy prosíme vědecké pracovníky i pracovnice vysokých škol a institucí Akademie věd ČR i vedení těchto institucí, aby
Nepřerušovali spolupráci s izraelskými vědeckými institucemi.
Zachovali otevřenou diskuzi, kterou se tato iniciativa snaží zastavit či obcházet.
Aby jim neumožnili překrucovat výklad principů mezinárodního humanitárního práva ani lidských práv a rozvinuli v této věci osvětu.
Aby nedávali prostory svých vědeckých institucí k dispozici pro jednostranná vystoupení této „iniciativy“ ani přidružených „sdružení“.
Domníváme se, že by veřejné výzkumné instituce i vysoké školy měly respektovat usnesení Poslanecké sněmovny Parlamentu ČR z 22. 10. 2019, které odsuzuje všechny projevy antisemitismu, včetně projevů proti státu Izrael.
Petice bude zaslána představitelům vysokých škol a Akademie věd ČR, je však otevřená podpisům širší veřejnosti a studentstva. Kolegy a kolegyně z vědeckých oborů prosíme, aby za jméno napsali aspoň obor nebo i svou instituci.
Ukažme, že nám tento vývoj není lhostejný.

Against Academic Anti-Semitism

Dear colleagues,
We are also addressing the public,
We, citizens, students and scientists from various disciplines, feel concerned about the expanding activities of a group of anti-Semitic activists at Czech universities and at institutions of the Czech Academy of Sciences. They now go by the name of "Initiative for Critical Academia", but overlap with other groups that use different names (Not in Our Name, AAA, Friends of Palestine, etc.) and now address the public as "academics". Their activities are primarily aimed at legitimising the expression of hatred against the State of Israel, but secondarily their tactics also question the value of truth, human rights and the basic principles of democracy.
They deliberately time their statements on dates that are important symbols of these values, and choose public places that are central to collective memory or that are the sites of important scholarly institutions for their rallies. Gradually, they push the boundaries of what is permitted to them, but also of what is prohibited to others.
The proclamations that these groups make to the Czech government, the academic community or the Czech public as a whole are aimed at ending our cooperation with Israeli universities and scientific organizations. The Initiative's intention is in line with the demands of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement and Friends of Palestine, which seek to disrupt relations between the Czech Republic and Israel. However, they regularly argue on the basis of human rights, as they did on 25 November in a petition to the President regarding the ICC ruling in The Hague, or at a rally they held on the occasion of International Human Rights Day in front of the the Faculty of Arts building in Prague.
The new anti-Semitism (read anti-Zionism) is no longer a limited phenomenon of Western universities. Thanks to the activities of this Initiative, it is also becoming established in the Czech education system. Since the publication of their proclamation at the time of the October anniversary of the brutal massacre of Israeli civilians, the number of signers has been growing, and so has been the number of the impacted academic institutions. The petitioners include authors of history textbooks and teachers of future teachers. We have a very realistic fear that through this activity, anti-Semitic prejudices will be passed on to younger generations.
Therefore, we would like to ask the academic staff of universities and institutions of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the management of these institutions to consider the following steps
Do not interrupt cooperation with Israeli scientific institutions.
Maintain an open discussion, which this ‘Initiative‘ seeks to stop or circumvent.
Do not allow them to distort the interpretation of the principles of international humanitarian law or human rights law and seek to educate the public on this matter.
Do not make the premises of your academic institutions available for unilateral presentations by this 'Initiative' or its associated 'associations'.
We believe that public research institutions and universities should follow the resolution of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic of 22 October 2019, which condemns all manifestations of anti-Semitism, including those against the State of Israel.
Let us show that we are not indifferent to this development.
